Daniel Fast Devotional: Day 14 – Restoring Joy
Scripture: “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
Joy is a holy strength given by God, not a fleeting emotion produced by circumstances. In Nehemiah’s day, the people were weeping as they heard the Word of the Lord and realized how far they had drifted. Yet God, in His mercy, did not leave them in sorrow. He called them into joy. Why? Because repentance opens the door to restoration, and restoration releases joy.
Fasting often brings hidden emotions to the surface. Weariness, frustration, or heaviness may try to creep in, but God never intended the fast to drain your joy. In fact, true joy is often reborn in seasons of surrender. As you draw near to God through obedience, intimacy replaces strain, and joy begins to rise again.
Joy flows from relationship. When you remember what God has saved you from, what He has forgiven, and where He is leading you, joy is restored. Obedience may cost you comfort, but it releases strength. The joy of the Lord becomes an inner reservoir that sustains you when the flesh feels weak.
This joy is not loud or shallow, it is deep, settled, and Spirit-produced. It brings resilience to your faith and endurance to your walk. As you continue this fast, allow the Holy Spirit to rekindle the joy of your salvation. Let gratitude replace heaviness and praise replace pressure.
Today, rejoice not because everything is easy, but because God is faithful, present, and at work in you.
Today’s Prayer: Father, I draw near to You with an open heart. Restore the joy of my salvation and renew my strength. Let gladness rise where weariness has tried to settle. I choose obedience, and I receive Your joy as my strength today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Today’s Focus: Joy restored through obedience becomes strength for the journey ahead.
